Well it's turning out to be a classic September - temperature not so high but humidity through the roof.

The problem with humidity is that, and there is no delicate way to put this, your sweat can't evaporate because the air is already full of moisture. So you feel hot (because your cooling mechanism i.e. the evaporation of sweat, has been foiled) and sticky (because your bodily fluids just lie there on your skin).
Yuck.
The people we bought this flat from had installed air conditioning in the master bedroom, and nightly we bless them for this. Both of us grew up without a/c and we didn't think we'd use it that much, but oh were we wrong.
We lasted until the first week of August with a normal fan, but then we capitulated (in spite of the 95% surcharge) and began to leave it on all night. Because, hey, the ability to sleep at night is worth paying for.
Now we are STILL leaving it on because of the humidity - you would not believe how much water this thing wrings out of the air.
Around me are signs that the season will soon change, such as kids buying stationery for when school starts again, but the weather has a little longer to hang on. Today I was in a shop with some very cute long-sleeve tops, but I just couldn't bring myself to try them on - it's too hot! So I made a mental note to go back when it's cooler.
Hopefully the last week of September will bring the cool air down from Europe and send us scurrying to dig out warmer clothes. *crosses fingers*
