Ah, how I love public holidays! Especially when they fall on a Friday!
We are currently redecorating, so I spent most of my long weekend painting. It's kind of fun, actually - I just cranked my mp3 player up loud and went at it. If anyone needs help with painting walls, I am now a dab hand (geddit?) with those paint-pad thingys.
Mum, Middle Sis and myself must have really good taste in men, because between the three of them they have expertise in kisi, painting, running electrics through a house, laying tiles, repairing roofs, making furniture, and pretty much anything else you could possibly need doing around the house. Only one of them cleans up after himself, though... *grin*
*ducks to avoid flying objects*
And now here's some aquired wisdom for you...
- Sugar soap (used to wash down walls before painting) stinks like fish.
- Hacking old plaster off walls is wonderful therapy for whatever ails you.
- When painting "Orchid" over "Gardenia", it's very difficult to tell which bits you've actually done.
- When in doubt over whether you've missed any bits, just ask a woman.
- There is nothing so nice as spotting a white strand in your hair and then realising that it's just paint.
- "Not getting paint on myself" is an unrealistic goal for someone who can't eat ice-cream from a cone without getting some on her nose.
- If you manage to go five hours without stepping in spilt paint, you will do so just before stopping for the day. Twice. It's just one of those things.
- Stepping in paint with bare feet feels a lot better than stepping in paint in socks.
- Anything you decide not to mask, you will get paint on.
- When wiping paint off the floor beside a newly-painted wall, it's a good idea not to lean forward too much because fresh paint on the wall plus your hair is not a very good combination.
- Moving furniture out of a room can take longer than the time used to actually plaster and paint it, especially if there's a tallboy full of the accumulated ornaments of twenty-six years, each of which needs to be wrapped in newspaper and packed into boxes.
- Cleaning kisi up off the floor is at least ten times messier than painting.
- Of your shirt, T-shirt, trousers, socks and mp3 player, the item that will wind up with the most paint on it will be your headphones.
Maltagirl, I envy you!! Could you send the men you mentioned round to my house? lol

I looovvve hacking old plaster/old paint off walls - it's so cathartic! Ara, next time, I'll help you with the plaster/old paint and you lot can help me with the painting hehehe. Actually, Chris re-painted the spare room all on his own a few months ago (of course, I did the hacking off of the old plaster/old paint myself hehehe) and I must admit that he did a really good job of it!
